My perspective

Theories help therapists understand what’s happening for a client and what may help. But real change is usually driven by the relationship—the rapport, connection, and trust you build with your therapist—not by a specific theoretical framework.

Therapy has become more mainstream, and many people now come in informed about methods, diagnoses, and popular therapy terms. That can be helpful, but it can also create unrealistic expectations—seeking a particular style that isn’t the right fit, or avoiding the time and effort real change requires.

I use theories to support your understanding and help you make sense of your goals and options. Depending on you and your situation, I may draw from multiple approaches. I don’t believe one theory is right for everyone—or that one therapist is the perfect match for every client or issue.

There are many paths to healing. What feels most resonant for you?
